Entrepreneurs thinking of starting a new business or expanding their current enterprise are encouraged to attend the Parrsboro Trade Fair scheduled for Thursday, September 13 from noon to 6:00 p.m. at the Fundy Geological Museum in Parrsboro.

Sponsored by the Parrsboro and District Board of Trade, CREDA, Nova Scotia Business Inc. and the Nova Scotia Department of Economic Development, the Trade Fair will provide a forum for funding and resource partners to discuss opportunities and resources with entrepreneurs from the Parrsboro region and beyond. A number of departments and agencies will have exhibits set up and representatives will be on hand to discuss the programs and services that are available to encourage new business development.

Among the exhibitors expected to be in attendance are the Canada/Nova Scotia Business Service Centre, Career Resource Centre, CBDC Cumberland, Centre for Women in Business, Department of Labour Standards, NS Business Inc., NS Department of Agriculture, NS Economic Development, NS Supplier Development, Micro-Loan Agencies, and Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations.

There is no fee to attend the Trade Fair, which is open to anybody interested. There will be a fund raising barbeque from noon to 2 p.m. with proceeds going to the South Cumberland Memorial Hospital in Parrsboro and the Bayview Memorial Health Centre in Advocate.

Whether you’re just beginning, redirecting, or continuing your job search the place to start is the Career Resource Centre (CRC) in Amherst. Located in the Cumberland Economic Resource Centre at 35 Church Street, the CRC offers a client-based environment that provides job seekers with the information and technology they need to move into the future. Trained staff assists clients with résumé writing, interview techniques, career directions, networking, employability skills, job searches, cover letters, industry sector and armed forces information, older worker barriers, and more.

Services available include computers with internet access and software for employment and career research, résumés and cover letters. In addition, the CRC offers an Employment Opportunities Board that is updated daily, faxing and photocopying of résumés, local and provincial newspapers, Career Counseling and Mentoring Services, periodic workshops, and Portfolio Development Courses. On site resources also include books, magazines, pamphlets, as well as information on educational programs, labour markets and business.

The Career Resource Centre is an initiative funded by Service Canada and sponsored by CREDA.
