June 2009
Fundy Shore communities and tourism operators in Cumberland County now have another marketing tool to promote their area via the World Wide Web. CREDA and the Fundy Shore Tourism Destination Area Committee have launched a new website which specifically targets the coastal route along the Upper Bay of Fundy between Amherst and Parrsboro.
The website, under the domain name of www.fundyshore.net, was designed by local website designer Hollis Bartlett. The user-friendly site features profiles of the communities along highway routes 302, 242 and 209 and details their many attractions. It also provides the visitor with an outline of things to do while in the area along with information on accommodations, dining, driving directions and a map of the area. According to Bartlett the website was designed with the potential visitor in mind and has print-friendly pages.
CREDA executive director Rhonda Kelly said marketing and product awareness/communications were high priorities among key strategic issues identified by the Fundy Shore Destination Area committee’s Strategic Action Plan. “Development of a dedicated website to promote Cumberland County’s Fundy Shore was one of tasks that needed to be addressed.” Kelly said.
The website, along with a new brochure, introduces a new branding slogan for the Cumberland County Fundy Shore Drive- “Your Route to World Class Attractions.”
A large number of events and activities are planned for Nova Scotia’s provincial parks, nature reserves, wilderness areas, or on crown land as part of the 2009 Parks are for People Program. Here in Cumberland County several events are scheduled during the months of June, July and August at both Cape Chignecto Provincial Park and Wasson Bluff Special Place near Parrsboro. The first of these events is a Walking Tour of Wasson Bluff on Saturday, June 13th at 10 a.m.
Wasson Bluff offers Jurassic-age red sediments, lava flows, river channels, lake deposits and wind-blown sand dunes. Bones from some of Canada’s oldest dinosaurs have been discovered in the tide-washed cliffs. The local rocks tell a story of ancient seas and coal swamps, collision of continents to form the super-continent Pangea, and the development of a rift valley which contains the footprints and bones of animals from the dawn of the dinosaurs.
This is a hike for all ages. Participants should bring a pair of walking shoes, layered clothing, a hat, sunscreen, a drink and a snack. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
The tour will depart from the Fundy Geological Museum in Parrsboro and will last between 3 and 5 hours. Participants must provide their own transportation and pre-registration is required. To pre-register or for more information contact Carol or Patricia at 1-866-856-DINO (3466). This walk is sponsored by the Fundy Geological Museum.
Parks are for People is a cooperative effort by government agencies, recreation clubs, community organizations and interested individuals and is coordinated by the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources.
