Employer/Employee Awareness Session aimed at older workers

Amherst, NS - The Career Resource Centre (CRC) and the Older Worker Project will host an “Employer/Employee Awareness” session aimed at older workers on Monday, March 27 in the boardroom at the Cumberland Economic Resource Centre, 35 Church Street, Amherst. Purpose of the session is to bring local employers and mature workers together to assist older workers in returning to work and to promote the advantages of older workers in the workplace. The session will get underway at 10 a.m.

Heather Carter, Older Worker Client Navigator for the CRC is extending an invitation to local businesses who are interested in attending the awareness session to also participate in a small presentation on behalf of their particular business. “Topics may include hiring techniques, résumé submissions, and the benefits your business may offer the older worker,” Carter said. “We look forward to partnering with local employers to inform older workers of employment opportunities in the area,” she added. Interested businesses are encouraged to sign up by calling the CRC at 667-3638. The deadline is 4:30 p.m. on March 22.

The Career Resource Centre and the Cumberland Regional Economic Development Association (CREDA) have partnered with the Acadia Centre for Small Business and Entrepreneurship to assist displaced and unemployed older workers with their approach to re-entering the workforce or changing their career. The labour force in this region, and the province as a whole, has been identified as having a shortfall of trained and skilled workers. This trend is expected to become more of an issue in the future. As such, the older worker is now more than ever a viable option for employers.
