Community Job Fair to feature many local employers and educational institutions

November 6, 2006

AMHERST, NS – Twenty employers and four educational institutions will be represented this Wednesday at the Career Resource Centre’s second Fall Community Job Fair. The job fair will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Lion’s Community Centre, 9 Electric Street, Amherst.

“A job fair is an excellent opportunity for community residents to meet and talk to the individuals who are responsible for hiring staff. Not only can the job seeker determine the skills and abilities required by a particular employer, they can hear first hand what that employer looks for in an employee.” says Judith Weatherbee, Coordinator of the local centre. “Job seekers need to be prepared with résumés and questions to ask company representatives,” she added.

Employers participating in the Job Fair include Access Labels, All One Builders Plus, Canadian Armed Forces, Comfort Inn, Cumberland Health Authority, IMP Aerospace Components, Kelly Services, Lighthouse Market and Jacobs Larder Bakery, Moneris Solutions, Polly Cello, Ropak, Shoppers Drug Mart, Ski Wentworth, Sunset Industries, Sobeys, TeleTech, Tim Hortons/Wendys, Victoria Manor, Wal-Mart, and Zellers. Representatives from the Chignecto Central Regional School Board-Community Education and Adult High School, Commercial Safety College, Cumberland Adult Network for Upgrading, and Nova Scotia Community College will also be on site to assist job seekers in determining options for additional education.

The Job Fair is open to the public and offers a chance to network, make contacts and gather information.

Located in the Cumberland Economic Resource Centre at 35 Church Street, Amherst the Career Resource Centre is an initiative funded by Service Canada and sponsored by the Cumberland Regional Economic Development Association (CREDA).
