Volunteer Training and Resources Workshop

January 19, 2007

SPRINGHILL, NS – Not-for-profit and volunteer led groups and organizations in Cumberland County are invited to attend a free Volunteer Training and Resources Workshop on Tuesday, January 30 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Dr. Carson and Marion Murray Community Centre in Springhill. The workshop, which is being hosted by the Cumberland Regional Economic Development Association (CREDA) will cover two very relevant topics, insurance liability and how to get the most out of meetings.

During the morning session from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, Mike Stack of Barnes Insurance Agency Limited will give an overview of the insurance liability issues not-for-profit organizations may face with their day to day activities and with volunteers. This session will also give volunteers an opportunity to ask an insurance broker any questions they may have.

The afternoon session from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. will be facilitated by Michelle Richard of Recreation Nova Scotia and will deal with effective meetings. This session will provide the tools and advise needed to set meeting agendas, to keep clear and concise minutes, to accomplish tasks, and to keep meetings on track without wasting time.

A light lunch will be provided. There is no cost but participants are asked to RSVP by Thursday, January 25 by contacting CREDA Development Officer Stephanie Ogilvie at 667-3638.

Cumberland County has a rich tradition of volunteerism. There are approximately 436 registered not-for-profit and volunteer organizations operating throughout the county.
