The Municipality of the County of Cumberland will be conducting a Spring Clean-Up Campaign throughout the community of Joggins and along Main Street in River Hebert between June 11th and June 15th. This service will be free of charge. Three types of materials will be collected at the roadside: residential construction and demolition debris; bulky items such as sofas, mattresses and box springs; and scrap metal, including washers, dryers and old car bodies. Household or commercial garbage and recyclables will NOT be accepted. Help the communities of Joggins and River Hebert prepare for the opening of the Joggins Fossil Cliffs Interpretive Centre and the potential designation of the Joggins Fossil Cliffs in 2008 as a UNESCO World Heritage Site by participating in the clean-up. For more information or to arrange assistance getting larger items to the roadside, visit the information booth that will be set at the Joggins Fire Department this Thursday, May 31 from 4 to 6 p.m. Questions may also be directed to Ron Moore at the Municipality of the County of Cumberland at 667-3747.

Seaside Communications, the company selected to deliver high speed Internet service to the Tidnish to Port Howe area, is hosting a “Town Hall” style meeting this Sunday, June 3 at 3:00 p.m. at the Tidnish Community Centre. A company representative will be on hand to update the communities on the delivery of high speed and to answer any questions residents may have.

CREDA continues to work with the government of Nova Scotia and the Municipality of the County of Cumberland to ensure that every resident and business has high-speed Internet. There are approximately 3900 civic addresses in Cumberland County that do not have access to high speed broadband Internet service at the present time.

CREDA and the County of Cumberland encourage business owners, residents, seasonal residents and community organizations in areas not yet served by broadband to express their interest by submitting their name and address to the web based form on the “Provincial Broadband Website.” The information provided will be used by the government of Nova Scotia to supplement the data collection on un-served areas.

The province has set a goal of 100 percent connectivity for every Nova Scotian by the year 2009. In many cases, the broadband access will be achieved through wireless connectivity.
