In celebration of Career Week, the Career Resource Centre is holding a two-week Job Quest seminar from Tuesday, November 6 to Friday, November 16. Informational sessions, hands-on career development and employer visits will all be included. Pre-registration is required by contacting the CRC at 667-3638, toll-free at 866-667-2344 or drop in to the Centre at 35 Church Street, Amherst. The CRC is an initiative funded by Service Canada and sponsored by CREDA.

CREDA is pleased to host a Volunteer Training and Resources Workshop for not-for-profit and volunteer led groups and organizations in Cumberland County. The day-long session will be held on Wednesday, November 7th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Dr. Carson and Marion Murray Community Centre in Springhill.
The workshop will feature two topics- Board Development will be covered between 10 a.m. and noon, while Planning for Results will be featured during the afternoon session from 1 to 3 p.m. Both sessions will be facilitated by Jim Campbell of the Nova Scotia Department of Health Promotion and Protection.
Attendance is free and a light lunch will be served. However space is limited so participants are asked to RSVP by Thursday, November 1st by contacting Stephanie Ogilvie at 667-3638.

CREDA and the Parrsboro and District Board of Trade have partnered to present a very special Small Business Week event in Parrsboro on Tuesday, October 16th. Management consultant and strategist Roy Prevost will present a three-hour workshop on “Retaining and Motivating Employees in Small Business”. Prevost has more than 25 years experience in all facets of marketing, wholesale, retail and manufacturing in the giftware industry. He is considered an expert on future trends and his research and analysis offers accurate predictions for companies to follow.
Business owners, managers and key employees are encouraged to attend the workshop which will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Fundy Geological Museum in Parrsboro. There is no fee for the workshop but interested participants are asked to pre-register by contacting CREDA at 667-3638. This special Small Business Week event is being sponsored by the Nova Scotia Association of Community Business Development Corporations, ACOA, the Nova Scotia Department of Economic Development and the Business Development Bank of Canada.

CREDA reminds Cumberland County based start-up business ventures with a new knowledge-based product or service that the deadline to enter the 1-3 Technology Start-Up Competition is less than a week away. Entrepreneurs have until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, October 9 to submit round one entries.
The province-wide competition, sponsored by InNOVAcorp, will take place simultaneously in five geographic zones across Nova Scotia. Zone 1 includes Cumberland, Colchester, Pictou, Antigonish and Guysborough counties.
Each first place zone winner will receive a $100,000 prize package, and each second place zone winner will receive a $40,000 prize package to be used towards the establishment or further development of their start-up ventures. Prize packages are a combination of cash and in-kind contributions including support and resources in the form of expertise in areas such as legal and accounting, as well as funding and seed investment. At the end of the competition, one provincial winner will be selected from among the five first place zone winners, and will be awarded a $100,000 seed investment from InNOVAcorp.
The competition has three rounds. Finalists will get professional assistance to polish their plans during the competition’s third and final round. The five zone winners will be announced on December 20, and the provincial winner will be announced on February 12. Submissions can be completed on-line at www.innovacorp.ca.
