The province is asking Nova Scotians for input into energy and greenhouse-gas reduction policies. It has created two documents, entitled "Consultation Paper: Nova Scotia's Renewed Energy Strategy" and "A Background Paper to Guide Nova Scotia's Climate Change Action Plan," to help inform public discussion. The first deals with broad energy policy and the second mostly with climate change -- especially action to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions.

Consultation on both is taking place this fall. A public workshop/consultation session will be held in Amherst on Monday, December 3rd from 4 to 7 p.m. in Salon “A” at the Wandlyn Inn. People wishing to attend are asked to pre-register by contacting CREDA at 667-3638.

The information gathered through public consultation and written submission will be used to help create the Energy Strategy and the Climate Action Plan, with release dates scheduled for spring 2008. Both plans will share the same goal -- to meet the 2020 deadline for cutting our greenhouse-gas emissions to 10 per cent below 1990 levels, while continuing to see Nova Scotia's economy grow.
