CREDA Report

December 12, 2007

Cumberland County residents will have an opportunity to provide input on Nova Scotia’s proposed energy and greenhouse-gas reduction policies after all. The public workshop and consultation session that was cancelled on December 3 due to poor weather and road conditions has been re-scheduled to Monday, December 17th from 4 to 7 p.m. in Salon “A” at the Wandlyn Inn. People wishing to attend are asked to pre-register by contacting CREDA at 667-3638.

The province has created two documents to help inform public discussion. The first, “Nova Scotia's Renewed Energy Strategy” deals with broad energy policy and the second, "A Background Paper to Guide Nova Scotia's Climate Change Action Plan" deals mostly with climate change -- especially action to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions.

The information gathered through public consultation and written submission will be used to help create the Energy Strategy and the Climate Action Plan, with release dates scheduled for spring 2008. Both plans will share the same goal -- to meet the 2020 deadline for cutting our greenhouse-gas emissions to 10 per cent below 1990 levels, while continuing to see Nova Scotia's economy grow.
