Cumberland County woodlot owners are reminded that the 2008 Central Nova Scotia Woodland Owner’s Conference will take place on Saturday, April 5 at Northumberland Regional High School in Alma, Pictou County.

The full day conference is an excellent opportunity for woodland owners to learn more about managing their woodlots in a sustainable way from expert guest presenters and fellow owners, to visit a number of commercial and educational displays, and to interact with other owners and industry people.

Participants can also register between 8:30 and 9 a.m. on the day of the conference. The 20 dollar registration fee includes a hearty lunch and a chance to win doors prizes and a grand prize of a chain saw to be drawn for at the end of the day.

The conference is a joint initiative of Nova Scotia Natural Resources, the Federation of Nova Scotia Woodland Owners, Nova Scotia Primary Forest Products Marketing Board, and Nova Scotia’s Regional Development Authorities, including CREDA.

The Cumberland Regional Economic Development Association invites non-profit organizations to attend a Volunteer Training and Resources Workshop on Wednesday, March 26th from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fundy Geological Museum in Parrsboro. Cost is five dollars per person and a light lunch will be provided.

The Workshop will open with a one hour session on Insurance Liability facilitated by Cindy Bourgeois of Hicks Lemoine Law Office. This session will give an overview of insurance liability issues that non-profit organizations may face when dealing with volunteers.

The second session, titled WOW Factor will be facilitated by Terri McCulloch of the Bay of Fundy Tourism Partnership and will run from 10:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a half hour break for lunch. This session will provide key customer service tips for achieving truly memorable and personally satisfying experiences. Participants will emerge inspired and energized from this innovate, interactive session.

Business owners with an existing website who would like to maximize their exposure and sales through internet marketing are invited to enrol in an e-marketing workshop being held in Amherst. CREDA is partnering with the Electronic Commerce Centre at the University of New Brunswick-Saint John and Nova Scotia Business Inc. to present the one-day, hands-on interactive workshop on Tuesday, April 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Tantramar Theatre, 98 Victoria Street.

Designed for companies of all sizes with an easy step-by-step approach to Internet Marketing, this workshop will expose participants to the tools of today’s e-marketers. Participants will learn about search engine advertising and optimization, social media optimization, display advertising, e-mail advertising, and website analytics. The workshop will be facilitated by Louis-Philippe Gauthier, President and CEO of BMG Consultants Inc. of Moncton, a full service e-Business, e-Publishing and Internet systems development firm.

Cost for the workshop is $100 per participant with lunch provided. As a bonus, participants will have the opportunity to continue to hone their skills in a half-hour free consultation with an Internet Marketing expert, which can be booked following the workshop.
