Biographical
sketch: Thomas Reuben Black was the son of Josiah and Hannah
(Embree) Black and the grandson of Thomas Black, born at Amherst,
Nova Scotia. He married (1) Eunice Bent in 1860 and (2) Bertha
Clarke in 1905. Thomas Reuben became a farmer in amherst and
became the Director of Amherst Car Works. He served as a Justice
of the Peace for Amherst and served in the Provincial House
of Assembly (1884-1890; 1894-1904) and later became a Senator.
Early in his career, Thomas abandoned farming and entered
construction, building many houses in Amherst, including the
"Black's Stone Block". He was one of the founders
of the Provincial exhibition. THomas married Eunice Bent,
daughter of W. W. Bent, who was the representative for the
Township in the Provincial Legislature. Eunice and Thomas
had five children. He died on 14 September, 1905 at Amherst
of typhoid fever.
Scope
and content: Fonds consists of one account book, which was
used to record the sale of agricultural goods and one day
book, which contains an introduction written by Black, regarding
its use and how he created it.
